At the end of 2022, David suffered a debilitating work injury. He went from building and finishing houses to barely housed, but he refused to let that hold him back. Now he proudly wears the title "The Broken Carpenter" as he continues pushing forward… slowly.
David has a true love and passion for crafting and creating. He can draw from a plethora of practical knowledge, inspired by people ranging from Master Carpenters to fishing boat captains to his grandmother. His interdisciplinary approach to his crafting leads to some very beautiful creations achieved by using interesting techniques.
“A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one”
His love of carpentry and building comes from a deep personal satisfaction derived from a job well done. He approaches each project with integrity, honor, and artistry. Being physically impaired is incredibly frustrating to someone who craves being immersed in projects, but he has developed his own system to slowly but surely get things finished.
“How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time”
When he is not building and crafting, or enduring his condition, you can usually find him in his extensive gardens or in his apple orchard. David uses no pesticides or herbicides, and is a self-proclaimed master at "brewing" compost tea. He and his dog Nala are lucky to enjoy a slow and quiet life in the peninsular range of Southern California, surrounded by oak, manzanita, and turkey. His biggest hope is to get the back surgery he so desperately needs in order to return to a normal, functional life.
